Understanding the Treatment

Lasers, when used for hair reduction, destroy the hair follicle with energy beams converted into heat. The root of every shaft of hair sits in a tiny sac called the hair follicle. Laser hair removal damages this hair follicle, eliminating hair growth.

However, not all hair removal lasers are equally effective for a given combination of skin and hair colour. Moreover, it is not unusual to come across instances of painful sessions, skin burns or disappointing results. Technique matters, without doubt. However, it is just as important to start by selecting the optimal laser technology for every individual.

At Infinity Aesthetics Clinic, Dr. Narendra Nikumbh is the best Laser Expert in Thane and Mumbai, provides the best Laser Hair Removal Treatment in Thane and Mumbai. We as a team work closely with every client to deliver a customized treatment crafted around the individual’s hair and skin type, using the latest technologies, systems, devices and products and this is what makes Infinity Aesthetics Clinic the Best Laser clinic in Thane.

Our laser system solutions are based on three major laser platforms – Alexandrite, Diode and Nd: Yag – but no two treatments are quite the same.

Now why do we have three different laser platforms? To provide the most effective and comfortable experience for every skin and hair type. Each of the different types of laser has a specific range of utility, depending on its wavelength and penetration.

The Alexandrite laser has a shorter wavelength than the Diode and Nd: Yag lasers, and has been used effectively for laser hair reduction treatment on skin types I-IV, meaning fair and light brown skin types. The shorter wavelength makes the treatment more effective on lighter skins and not suitable for darker skins.

The Nd: Yag long pulse laser can be used safely on all skin types – type I to VI. Most notably, it is highly effective on dark or tanned skin with darker hair, but is of limited use on light or fine hair. Fast repetition rates and large coverage areas allow large areas of the body to be treated quickly. Nd: YAG technology can be used to eliminate unwanted hair on almost any part of the body.

The diode laser performs well on coarse, dark hair and is a good choice for back or bikini hair. It operates at a wavelength that allows deeper penetration into the skin, avoiding the melanin in the epidermis and therefore targeting the hair follicle directly.

In the diode laser device, small diodes produce light that triggers laser production. This laser has a longer wavelength than most other lasers, which makes it more suitable for darker skin tones.

In fact, diode lasers can be used on all skin colour types. In effect it means that they will not burn darker skin while targeting hair follicles.

How it Works?

Laser hair removal in general, works on the principle of selective photothermolysis, which means dark areas absorb light energy from the laser better than lighter ones. However, lasers do not inherently distinguish hair from skin, and the distinction is made by colour alone.

When the hair is darker than the surrounding skin, it absorbs the light energy (the skin doesn’t) This light energy turns into heat which destroys both the hair shaft and the follicle, while keeping the skin unharmed.

What’s special about the diode laser is that it has a longer wavelength than most other lasers, enabling the light to penetrate deeper into skin and reach the hair follicle. This makes it better at avoiding the melanin pigment in the skin and by doing so, causing less epidermal injury than other lasers. This makes it safer and gentler for use on darker skin tones.

What you can expect?

The diode laser has a high success rate and provides a permanent solution for unwanted hair. It works well on any part of the body and is very effective for darker skin tones.

You can look forward to clean, smooth skin when your unwanted hair has been removed with a diode laser.

The laser treatment may cause minor discomfort, the feeling described often as a ‘rubber-band snap’ effect. The area around the treated hair follicle will be red and swollen, a sign that the follicle has responded to the treatment.

pre-treatment care

A) Avoid sunbathing/direct sun exposure for a minimum of 2 weeks before the treatment.

B) If recommended by the dermatologist, apply anesthetic cream over the areas to be treated, at least one hour before your visit to the clinic. This ensures optimal numbing.

C) We advise you to shave off the hair in the areas to be treated, before your visit to the clinic. Not only will it save you time, it will make your session a lot more comfortable.

A few points to note:

  • Shave around 2-3 hours before the session.
  • Wet shaving should only be done using shaving foam and a razor.
  • Do not use electric shaving machines/epilators/depilators/shaving creamsBe careful to not cut your skin.
  • Leave a small patch of skin unshaven. This will enable the doctor to identify the hair type/status.

Post-treatment care

A) Avoid other hair removal methods aside from shaving and epilation creams in between sessions.

B) Do not bleach, wax, thread or pluck hair throughout the course of the treatment.
